Georgia Alliance for Safe Roads organization with the Leader of the Parliamentary Majority, Archil Talakvadze, within the framework of educational campaign “Parents Take Care of Safe Transportation of Children”, held a school meeting regarding the road safety at the School of the Future.
The objective of the campaign is for the famous parents to hold one lesson on road safety at their children’s kindergartens/schools in order raise awareness among their children and their friends and, by following traffic rules, set an example to other parents.
At an interactive meeting in the hall formed as a street, along with the responsibilities of pedestrian, the seats for different age groups were demonstrated and juveniles were provided information regarding the necessity of use of car seats while traveling. At the end of the meeting, the cake decorated with road signs was cut with children and participants.
The meeting is being implemented with the support of the US Embassy in Georgia.
In October this year, the research conducted by the Alliance in kindergartens of Tbilisi using the observation method, revealed that only 6% of the 605 drivers use the car seat for children under the age of 6, and 23% of drivers place their children on the front seat.
Based on international experience, a car seat protects a child from damage and fatal accidents at 40-60%, in case of vehicle collision. The use of car seat for juveniles with height up to 150 cm is required by the European law, while Georgian legislation does not oblige parents to use the seats. Statistics: Over the last 3 years (2015-15-16), 31 children under 7 years died and 988 were injured.
